Students noted that all four equations contain the same numbers in a different order and that order doesn't matter when adding.

*The Cinder-Eyed Cats*and had to write at least two questions. Students were then read half the book, and we stopped to write down two other questions. We will finish this lesson tomorrow. - Guided Reading - Students read 30 minutes with teacher; 30 minutes on literacy centres.

- Math. Students were introduced to the concept of subtracting by counting backwards and subtracting by counting forwards. Examples of today's Math lesson:

Students had to write about imagining what kind of superhero they would be, what kind of superpower(s) they would have, what their superhero name would be, and what they would use their superpower for. Students had to edit and correct mistakes, then also add a picture to their writing.

- P.E. - student played outside.
- Math - Last day to finish Number Sense worksheets in class from last week.
- Social Studies - Students filled in Quebec and Nunavut on their map of Canada and began colouring the provinces and territories.

- Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feast - all students had the opportunity to have pancakes, juice, oranges, and ham if they wanted in preparation for Ash Wednesday/Lent.

- Math - students had to do at least 3 correct pages of work in order to have free time. Students continued to practice counting up from a big number to the smaller number (e.g. 8 + 4 = 8,
instead of counting 4,__9, 10, 11, 12__and understanding that counting from 8 up four spaces is easier and more efficient than starting at 4 and counting eight spaces up). Students also practiced subtraction with number lines.__5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12__ - Science - Learned more about a duckling's life from age 4 weeks to 8 weeks.

- Math - Continued Number Sense work from previous day. If students completed 3 pages of Math, they were able to have some free time on the computer.
- 100s Day Activities - in honour of completing the first 100 days of school, students were able to make a 100 days poster, and make Froot Loops (sic) necklaces with 100 Froot Loops. Students practiced skip counting by 2s to create piles of 10; and practiced skip counting by 10s to get to 100 - reaffirming their knowledge that 10 tens make 100.

- LA - Journal - Book Write. Students were read the story 'Extra Yarn' and had to write two things they liked about the book (e.g.: One thing I liked about the book was...; The second thing I liked about the story was....; I really liked these parts because...). Students were not allowed to use the words or phrases "...because it was funny; or ... because it was fun". Grade 2 is trying to get away from finishing their sentences with the words 'fun' or 'funny'.

- Computers - for those students finished their journals.
- Science Fair - Grade 2 were able to see the Grade 6 and 7 Science Fair and ask questions. They also go to vote for their favourite experiments.

- Language Arts & Science - Types of Reading (Fiction vs. Non-Fiction). Students wrote about the features of non-fiction and wrote about their favourite group of animal (mammals; birds; reptiles; fish; amphibians; and insects). Students also had to fill in a Venn Diagram with birds and reptiles and what was different about them and what was the same.
- Guided Reading - 30 minutes with teacher; 30 minutes on literacy centres
- P.E. - Dodgeball & sneak peak at tonight's book fair
- Math - Making word problems (students were shown 9 flies, and a picture of a frog eating 4. Students then had to write "There were 9 flies. The frog ate 4 of them. How many are left? 9 - 4 = 5). Students also began learning ordinal numbers (1 = 1st; 2 = 2nd; etc.).
- Computers - 30 minutes.

After re-re-reviewing concepts learned and practiced from Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, we worked on story order and inference (Examples: What happened at the beginning of the story? What happened in the middle? What happened at the end of the story? Students were encouraged to go back to the text and underline the most important parts of the beginning, middle, and end of the story. For inference, students had to go back to the text and find an analogy, or metaphor in the story that tells the reader how the character was feeling)

- Math - After reviewing place value (understanding that in 15, the '1' is not a '1' but '1 group of 10'. and that the '5' means '5 ones'). we proceeded onwards with the rest of the assignment - reinforcing the same concepts and understanding that 5 + 6 = 11; and 6+5 = 11...that order doesn't affect the outcome of the answer when solely adding.
- Social Studies - LA - Raven Tales - Raven Gets Sick, which explains the legend of how the animals complained to the Great Spirit that humans had too many advantages, and convinced the Great Spirit to inflict the animals' aches and pains on the first people each year.

- Math - Understanding numbers to 19. Students worked on understanding the concept of the 'teens' numbers (e.g.: 17). Students worked to understand that that the "1" in "17" is not really a "1"; it means 1 group of 10 and 7 ones. Therefore 14, or any other number, could be shown as 10 + 4 =
__1____4__. Some of the early finishers were then shown different numbers like "20", and had to explain that the "2" is not really a two, but 2 groups of ten and no ones. Early finishers were challenged to explain numbers up to 58.
